UPDATE (6/27): The new Corsair CX600 PSU came in the mail and I installed it. I went to load a video from youtube and it did the same thing: screen went white and the pc restarted. This is my only PC so it's starting to get a bit frustrating. I'm assuming it can either be the graphics card or the motherboard that needs replacement. Gonna send the PSU back tomorrow (it's quite loud sometimes) and order a cheap graphics card. I really need to get my PC back on it's feet
Hi. I've been looking on all the forums and can't seem to figure out exactly which component of my PC needs replacement. I'm getting a black screen when I start any youtube vid or load up any game. It first started when I downloaded a game called Rift.
First symptoms were: minor screen tearing and blinking screen, which went away when I exited the game. Then, the symptoms got more severe as time went on, and I'm now at the point where I get a black screen 5 seconds into a video or game.
When the black screen happens, there are two different outcomes depending on the situation.
First: it will just go black and I will still be able to hear the game sound for a little bit. This outcome usually happens after a game is loaded
Second: the screen will turn black with gray stripes and the sound seems to skip. This outcome usually happens after a youtube video is loaded.
Attached is a screenshot of my current HWMonitor readings
Processor: AMD Phenom X6 II 1055T 2.79ghz
Memory: 6GB
Hard Drive: 1TB
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 5670
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Manufactorer: Dell
Model Studio XPS 7100
I'm out of warranty and I'm making an educated guess that my motherboard needs replacement and that it's capacitors are faulty.
Thing's I've done/tried: Thought it was the graphics card. I used a bottle of compressed air (short-bursts) to clean the fans and inside the case. I unscrewed the fan housing on my graphics card and cleaned the dust that was around the heatsink under the fan. No luck so far.
Important to note: my computer was hooked up to an outlet that wasn't grounded for a long while (almost 2 years). I am now connected into a properly grounded outlet. Could the bad outlet have fried my components? My temp readings have gone down significantly after switching power outlets. The graphics card used to read 70C but now is at a comfortable 52-55C. The only temp that is high is the TWPIN2 temp (whatever that is). Is that the motherboard?
I have run every diagnostic test available. I have turned off AMD's Cool and Quiet. Nothing so far has told me exactly what's wrong.
Thank you so much for all your help!
