I have a desktop at home and have decided to try some gaming (have mostly benen a console fan my whole life) and I'm wondering if this is going to cut it? What games can I play and on a rough estimate, what settings?

Intel i5 4670
Msi GeForce gtx 660 gaming edition
8 gb ram

Its a custom build, my very own, so if you want full specs please notify me!

Thanks in advance!

the 660 is a good card, about 1 generation old. should be able to play most any game at 1920x1080 at at least high settings. Older games like Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and most MMOs can go Ultra/Max settings

Its not a bad card, but is outdated. I would go for a GTX 760 or R9 270 or R9 270X

The CPU is a solid gaming CPU

EDIT: You can play basically any game on a 660 but not with all the eye candy. Current hardest game for GPU is Crysis 3, and you will be able to get around 30FPS in that with most graphics options maxed out. On low you will be able to get a solid 60 FPS. Keep in mind that most console games are locked at 30 FPS.

The GTX 660 is not an outdated card considering that basicaly even the 7xx series have the same chip (except the 750ti)

Actually after looking up prices I agree. Keep the 660 as the 760 is not worth it for the price difference. However at this price point I suggest the 270x, it performs better than the 660 and is only $30 more.

Okay thank you for quick replies! I noticed that I should have gotten the 270x instead, have only been using the 660 a week but I probably cant return it and switch, but 30 fps is playable on pc right? And how long will I last with the 660 until newer games will demand a better gpu?

The 660 should give at least 30 FPS on most games. You'll be fine for a few years, remember you can get another 660 and SLI them for a ~75% performance boost in most games.
