Ok so what you need to do is go into the bios and change the SATA operation mode from AHCI to IDE or legacy. This is because windows 7 comes with AHCI drivers in the OS, where to use a SATA drive in ACHI operation mode, you have to have the drivers on a usb or floppy and hit f6 to load drivers before installing, so instead of searching and doing all that work to inject those drivers into the install, just switch the SATA operation mode and you will be installed in no time. For windows XP, the difference between the two operation modes is negligible. No harm done in switching.
