Hello. I hope someone can help me with my BSOD issue. I just recently built a pc for the first time. I purchased windows 8.1 Pro form Microsoft’s website and installed it via USB. I used the “Windows 8.1 Setup” program from Microsoft’s website to create the bootable USB. Previously, my system was running Windows 7, I think it was Home Premium edition. After installing Windows 8.1 Pro the system was working great for several days. Today I was fumbling around with an old wireless gaming adapter (Linksys WGA54G ver. 2) trying to configure it to work with my printer for wireless printing. I had the gaming adapter plugged in to my router (Linksys WRT54G v. 3) and I was trying to get it to connect to my wireless network. I was using my Windows 8.1 pc to attempt to configure the gaming adapter, my pc was not physically connected to the router but was connected by wifi. I ended up running the setup utility for the gaming adapter over and over because most of the time the program would state that the device could not be found. Then all of a sudden I got a blue screen saying “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you.” Then the computer restarted and after I put in my password to login to Windows the same thing happened. I tried getting to safe mode by pressing F8 while it booted but it didn’t do anything. I inserted the installation USB and tried “Refresh your PC”, “Startup Repair”, “System Restore”, and “Reset your PC”, none of which worked. I even tried inserting a Windows 7 setup DVD and after it loaded it displayed a blue screen referencing the error MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

Now when I start the pc it shows the windows 8 logo and says “Preparing Automatic Repair” then it goes straight to a blue screen with an error code on the bottom and then restarts. The blue screen doesn’t stay on very long and the error code isn’t always the same. Sometimes it says “MEMORY_MANAGEMENT”, “0xc000045”, “PFN_LIST_CORRUPT”, “BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO”, or something else.

Sorry for such a long post but I didn’t want to leave out anything that could potentially solve this case. Please help me resolve this issue. Thank you.

My system:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 Gaming
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k
RAM: 8 GB (2x4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1866 (Running at 1600)
SSD: 250GB Samsung 840 EVO
PSU: Corsair CX750

Reseat your Memory sticks, and if that doesn't help, try running on one at a time...

Thanks for the quick reply dodger46. I was unlucky with reseating the memory sticks so i tried running only one and I was finally able use the "Reset PC" option. Now my PC is up and running again but it's only using one of my two memory sticks. If I use both sticks then I continue to get the blue screen and random restarting. I also get problems when using my other memory stick by itself. I used the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool when both sticks were installed and under "Status" it said "Hardware problems were detected..." then it crashed before booting Windows. I'm assuming that my other stick of RAM has something wrong with it.

Where do you think I should go from here? I really want the other 4GB of RAM added to my system. Do you think I need to make a warranty claim on the RAM? Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Sure, go ahead and claim, quote the error codes from Memtest to back up your case...
But try the good stick in both slots to rule out a bad slot...

I just wanted to update my thread and thank you again dodger46. I tried the good stick in each slot by itself and it worked fine so I ended up getting a warranty replacement for my RAM. I'm assuming that I just received a faulty memory stick, which had nothing to do with my router, gaming adapter, or drivers.
