If you're looking for a bare-bones, only what will get the OS to run setup, 4GB will run a 64bit OS. However, this doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room, and I would highly recommend not going below 8GB. Memory is so cheap nowadays, though, why not just grab 16GB?

*GB is more or less the accepted 'norm' for entry level, i.e. if you look at most prebuilts these days they come w/ 6-8 and PC makers are notoriously stingy with DRAM as a cost cutting measure - so if they go 6-8GB then will prob want min of 8GB
