Hi, I currently own a rig with an AMD A8-5500 and a Radeon HD 7770 Graphics card that I pretty much use exclusively for gaming. I just picked up a slightly older Dell Vostro desktop with an i5-2400 inside, I have heard that Intel chips are better with dedicated graphics than AMD, but would it be worth it to swap out from one pc to the next?

PC #1: AMD A8-5500, 350w HP power supply, 8 GB pc3-12600 RAM, Radeon HD 7770 graphics card.
PC #2: Intel i5-2400, 350w Dell power supply, 4 GB pc3-10600 RAM (can upgrade to 8 GB for small cost), same graphics card as above.

Thank you!

P.S. I will be looking to upgrade to a more powerful graphics card down the line (have my eye on a R9 280x), if that's the case will either chip still work effectively or would I have to bite the bullet and get a new processor?

Traditionally I would agree, but I'm asking due to the age difference between the 2 CPUs. The A8-5500 seems to have better equipment to handle graphics (F16C / FMA3 / XOP capabilities), yet the i5-2400 has the definite edge in processing power

If you're looking to game with a dedicated graphics card, then the i5 would be the better option and is much more powerful than the a8.

Like everyone else has said, the i5 with your HD 7770 and 8GB RAM is definitely the better choice. The whole point of the AMD A series is that you don't use a standalone GPU. It's a good choice for small form factor desktops or laptops that still need good graphical power, otherwise it becomes a performance compromise.
