I am building a new computer and it is getting a bit over budget already! so i was hoping to keep my current monitor.....
specs:-
cpu:-core i5 - 4670k {haswell}
GPU:- Gtx 770
RAM:- Corsair GB Vengeance(2+GB)
Mobo:- Asus z87-A

now i am hearing much talk aboutt this VGA vs DVI ports so my question is this...

do i really need to upgrade ? because my current LED monitor{vga} woks just fine!

More about : monitor monitor vga hdmi ports dvi ports

No you don't need to upgrade that monitor, it's already got HDMI ports... that itself means it's good enough.

*EDITED* I would just use the HDMI from monitor to graphics card

and there would be no loss of any sound or anything because i am thoroughly confused about this topic.......

No, there'd be no loss of sound..... why should there be?
You're using the VGA.... if you change over from the VGA port to the HDMI port you still get an option whether to let HDMI handle the sound (Meaning you GPU) or then the usual Sound Card that you were using before....
