Hi I have a Philips 206v LED back lit 20.5 inch monitor which supports upto 1600*900 resolution and I have a nvidia gtx 550 ti. IT came with a VGA connector. The Gpu and monitor have DVI ports. Should I change from VGA to DVI? What difference does it make?

there is no difference from what the eye can see, however in the digital world DVI has a better quality video signal due to the newer Digital signal rather then the analog VGA connection. Keep to the VGA, anything above 60Hz and your resolution it would be worthwhile, but for you, you won't tell a thing.

Hello... DVI is the direct Digital signal from your Digital Data and programs... VGA is a converted Signal from the Original Digital signals... a DVI cable can be had at your local Computer re-cycler store for about $5, you can always try and see for yourself, and make your own choice that way.
