I have a stock i7 2600k which, during games of Civilization V is sitting at 90C core temperature, according to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, towards the endgame. Interestingly lowering the graphical settings did help a bit (to get it down to 90C). This is with only Civilization V running and fans running at maximum rpm (~2000RPM).

I am currently using the stock cooling and have not overclocked the cpu. I looked at suggestions for fans elsewhere on the forum but I do not think the suggested fans (Hyper 212 EVO) would fit within my motherboard because the stock 80mm x 80mm fans are as wide as they can be (with a few cm of room in terms of depth).

The inside of my case

When I bought the computer a few years ago I didn't notice I had bought a uatx motherboard rather than a full sized one which explains limited space. I could get a bigger motherboard but I would prefer not spending the extra money.

If there are any suggestions on fans which would fit in the space available or other solutions to these temperatures it would be much appreciated.

System specs if they are useful:
i7 2600k @3.4Ghz (turbo to @3.8ghz, normally sits @3.61Ghz during games)
8GB G Skill Rip Jaws 2133Mhz
Asus P8P67-M motherboard
MSI GTX 760 2GB

If there is anything I have missed out I'll happily find out and add it.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help.

If mounting space is an issue you could look into a AIO liquid cooler, they are very easy to mount and you could put the radiator and fan on the rear exhaust of the case - Have a look at the Corsair H75.

The fan orientation changes with tower coolers. The bottom of the heatsink is the rough size of the cpu. It then gets larger as it rises. Maximum height should be your only concern.

Hyper Evo is 159mm tall, your case manufacturer should list the maximum cooler height. If you are still concerned there are plenty of smaller coolers that perform almost as well or better.

Thermaltake Frio, Noctua NH-U12S, and so on.

I can't find the gigabyte page for my case (Triton 180, I googled it but the page doesn't exist) but the case itself is about 200mm high so should accommodate a 159mm fan assuming I remove the cone on the side of the case. If it is the case that it gets larger, should it fit over my ram then?

Liquid cooling also seems like a good idea, but is it hard to maintain or pretty simple?

Closed Loop Liquid cooling is more or less maintenance free, but the warranty only lasts so long. If it breaks after that, you basically have to buy a new one.

Sounds like you have an older design case if you have the duct scoop on the side. More then likely it will fit around your ram. Sometimes the fan has to be clipped a little higher for clearance, but only when all 4 ram slots are populated. Generally the first two slots populated are the 'pair' farther away from the CPU.
