I want to buy a SSD for my desktop and was looking at the samsung 840 evo. I really just want the best one though if you guys have a suggestion of something better and affordable.

The question I have is why do people buy 2 separate ssd's 1 for a boot drive and the other for storage. Is there an advantage to having a separate boot drive from your storage drive rather than just buying a 500gb ssd and using it for all your needs. (boot storage etc.)

Thanks

like Suztera said most people buy a ssd for faster boot time. i had a 1 tb WD and wanted a faster boot time so I got a 120 gb ssd a year ago and had fast boot time but i also use it to store some games on it so they will load faster. like BF3 would load faster than anyone else starting a multiplayer game. Then that 120 ssd got full and there was a good deal on a 240 ssd so i got that as my main boot device and use the 120gb to store games and my 1 tb for pictures videos and all that.

So in simpler terms a ssd makes pretty much anything you do faster, but it depends on how much you want to spend to get better performance in what you want. i would just stick with a small ssd for better boot time and a larger non ssd hd for storage

hope...
