R9 280X Sapphire Toxic - Crash

Today i installed my new GPU, a Sapphire Toxic R9 280x. I have a 650W power supply, Windows 7 64 Bit.
After 5 minutes of gaming (tried different games) my PC crashes. No error report, just like i had a power blackout. The PC doesn't restart automatically.
After this i installed the latest AMD drivers (not Beta ones) and underclocked my GPU to run at 850Mhz core and 1500Mhz memory clock.
I played and was happy that it didn't crash, but after 45 minutes later, it did again. So my underclocking and the latest driver expanded the time till the crash, but did not fix it at all...

What can i do to fix this issue?

I think its a psu issue (load) as on many websites and forums requirement for r9 280x is 750w psu but i am not sure :D

That's what i thought too...but on the most forums they say, that they can even run it with 500W PSU's.
And after underclocking, it made it 9 times as long as it did before...maybe other guesses? :eek:

What 650W power supply do you have?
A quality 550W will do fine.
The card may be defective. If you had to underclock your card to get it stable, RMA or return it. It should not be like that.

The 750W recommendation is for the low end quality power supply.
It does sound like you have a low quality 650W but it may be also the card due to the type of memory used in the R9 280X

Is there anything i should aware about when buying a new PSU? How many pins? a certain brand? etc...

Or would it be as much as effective to buy an other card, which is comparably good, wich is just not as Power-sensitive as this one ?

go with tier 1 brands like corsair antec etc they are the best and find out your total power in watts requirement usually psu already have all the required pins and if you see your motherboard you can find supported psu :D

Stick to these brands : Antec, Coolermaster V series, Corsair (AX or HX series only), EVGA SuperNova G2 series, Seasonic or XFX.
Corsair CX series are not good for gaming pc. they sue inferior cpas in their units and can easily fail under heat and stress.

All power supplies have to fit in the ATX standard. They should fit in any ATX sized cases.
