Hi,
My brother has the following rig:-
Windows 7 (64bit)
gigabyte ex58-ud5 motherboard
i7 920 (stock)
R9 270 graphics card. (changed from an hd 5870 about 6 months ago)
a 850watt PSU
Corsair Vengence 1866 RAM (3 x 2GB)
All has been fine for a couple of years or but now when he boots up it counts to a random number of RAM and crashes.
He has tried each of the 3 sticks of ram in the 1st slot and one of the sticks causes the system not to boot at all.
As the remaining 2 seem fine how does he get only 2 x 2GB sticks of triple channel RAM to work? I assume as it is only 2 sticks it will default down to dual channel, which for gaming should be fine. But where do the sticks go? Is it slots 1a and 2a? or 1a and 1b, or what?
It will just be a temp stop gap until he gets new RAM.
