I'm interested in upgrading my PSU...the generic Xtreme Gear ATX-cb800w CyberPower one I got with my machine a few years ago. I don't need any more power, instead I am looking for a PSU that:

1) Will serve as a quiet upgrade to my current ATX tower

2) Can eventually be incorporated into a smaller build down the line...possibly something Fractal Design Node 304 or Corsair Obsidian 250D size.

I've read a lot of reviews and it seems that the Corsair RM series has the most consistent reputation for being very quiet. I'm looking at getting:

Any thoughts on better alternatives or reasons why I might not want to consider the Corsair RM750w?

I have read that the RM series use lower quality capacitors:

This EVGA G2 is a Tier 1 PSU, compared to the tier 3 Corsair RM 750W.

Thanks for the reference post Scampi.

It appears that the Corsair RM 650w is a Tier 1A PSU, made by a different OEM:

But, having looked at the list, the Cooler Master V650 has also caught my eye for its size and price, but it has few reviews and there isn't much emphasis on its volume in the review/marketing.

The good RM is the 550.

Actually the good Corsair RM models are the 450w, 550w & 650w which are made by CWT.

Tier two class A:
Corsair
GS series (GS600 / GS800)
HX / HX v2 series
RM 450 / 550 / 650w models (Made by Channel Well Technology)
TX / TXM series

Personally I wouldn't recommend any of them.

Agreed, neither would i. I don't have confidence in them.

All,

Just wanted to follow up and say I got the RM 550, and am very satisfied. At low loads, it is practically silent from 3 feet away. If I have any noise/sound playing at all, I can't hear it. And even under the heaviest loads it never becomes loud enough to be a distraction.

Thanks for the recommendations.
