Need help installing Windows 8 on MSI 970A G43

I have set the boot device priorities correctly. i have tried a usb. flash drive with linux on (formatted on a mac book pro, would this be an issue?) i have a disc with windows 8.1 but when i turn the computer on it shows a message saying reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key_
my specs are :
AMD FX 6300
SAPPHIRE RADEON R9 270X
2X4 GB KINGSTON DDR 3 RAN
1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA HARDRIVE
MSI970A G43 MOBO
EVGA 500 W PSU
Any suggestions as to what has gone wrong?

  1. Do you have secure boot turned on? and are you picking a device from the boot list that shows something like this?: 1:UEFI:DVD Drive or 2:UEFI:USB Kingston drive?
  2. it doesn't give the option to turn secure boot on
  3. only 1 thing says uefi . it says uefi built-in EFI SHELL underneath it says disabled??
  4. ignore the disabled bit
  5. also it's not f12 its del to get to bios and then i change to disc boot reset and it still doesn't work

In the bios, you need to go into Windows 8 Options and turn on Secure boot, and also make sure that is uses UEFI and not Bios legacy mode.
