my computer freezes frequently

When I use my computer it suddenly freezes and when I offed it and on my computer again it appears as black screen what is the problem I have a windows 8.1
Should i move to windows 7 or 8 to solve this problem

This sounds like a hardware problem rather than software, assuming the black screen doesn't appear after it has started loading Windows. Do you even see a BIOS screen? As old as it is, look over the motherboard for any swollen, cracked, or leaking capacitors. Google "bad capacitors" for images if you need them.
