Recently something very weird has started to happen with my home wireless. Whenever I connect my router (TP-link TL-WR841N) to my cable modem (Arris WBM760), they both reboot. The first one to reboot is the router, and it's causing my modem to reboot as well. The router reboots (regardless of traffic) sometimes once after every 2 minutes and at times after every 10 seconds. I'm not sure which device is at fault, but the modem works flawlessly when used as a LAN without that router. I've also tested the router with a spare AC adapter as I had somewhat similar issue with it in the past, but no luck.

Further, there is no issue with my internet service. My wireless had been working fine for the past 3 years, and there are no changes in my internet and wireless security settings. My OS and system software etc. are also same as before. Firmware for both devices are latest.

I would like to know where the culprit lies, is it the modem or the router and how to determine it?

Thanks!

Do you have an ethernet switch that you can connect between the router and modem? (this is to test if there is an issue with either the modem on router that is causing either noise or higher than normal voltages to be sent over via the ethernet port.).

And probably a longshot, but did you do any kind of power over ethernet mod to your router?
