Following is the PC configuration I am building-

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Kingston 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($95.33 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Guardian 921 RB ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.98 @ OutletPC)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($71.30 @ Newegg)
Total: $671.57

I want to know a good motherboard I can pair up with it, preferably, an H97 or H87 (if I can get a good price for one). I won't be overclocking so the Z97 or Z87 would simply be money unwisely spend for me. Which motherboard can I choose from the H series which is good value for money.

Also, if there are lesser priced motherboard options other than H97 chipset ones, some recommendations would be great. All the help will be appreciated.

are both decent, one being a matx and the other an atx. Also one supports RAID and the other does not. And they both offer crossfire support since I noticed your gpu. With either of them you need to change your RAM because the RAM you had selected was not working with any motherboard combinations on the website.

What's the essential difference between the ATX and micro-ATX H87 motherboards? I was tempted by the low price of the micro-ATX but I am not sure if that's really a good option and why isn't it one.

And my budget is ~$110

micro-ATX motherboard are for smaller cases and are therefore smaller. Also typically a smaller motherboard will not offer as much upgradeability as a larger one can, such as different number of expansion slots, RAM module slots, etc. Both of these motherboard offer pretty much the same features and either would work for the build you plan on doing. Except of course you would have to switch out the RAM for something that is compatible with the required RAM slots.

I have eventually gone with the ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 due to lack of availability of other motherboards and a nice price offer on this one. Thanks for the clarification regarding ATX and mATX. Helped me make my decision.

The Sabertooth is a great board and one I considered for my original build. Good luck.

On an unrelated note, I'd recommend getting 2x4gb ram sticks unless you plan on upgrading to 16-32gb which is unnecessary for your gaming purposes.
