I have a HP G-50 running Vista. It has a dual core Pentium 2.0ghz sata II., Hitachi 120gb hdd. It runs fine but SLOW. I would like it to be faster, which ssd should I choose? A really fast expensive one or a less expensive but slower one. I don't to spend extra for something this system can't take advantage of

Solution
If I were you, I would regularly back up everything that you do not want to lose. And use the laptop till it breaks down or you get too annoyed with it.

Then upgrade to a new comp. The hdd in your laptop can still be used for storage with a new comp if it did not die on you.
I believe that system only has sata2 at best plus with Vista the ssd trim function will not work. Not for sure but it might not have an AHCI mode in BIOS either. HP more times than not locks the BIOS so it is very hard to upgrade their comps, if not impossible. Your best bet is to get a better & faster hdd. A 7200rpm hdd with at least a 32MB cache. Better a 64MB cache.

THANK YOU for replying . I am very sad to hear that . Others replied that I should choose a good name brand and go with it , that any ssd would make faster . I know nothing about computers ( I'm not even good at using them ) I don't know how get to my bios to check .
You seem to have more knowledge than me , so for now I'll hold off. Again thanks Reteagle

I already defragged it , There is only 17 gbs other than Os
Oh I did find a 7200 with 32 cache for $70.. Maybe I should just up-grade to a newer computer. But it seems to me that the older boxes were more robust. My wife's 17 mo. old hp lost the 1 tb hdd and no data can be retrieved , most was backed-up but not all. My old laptop keeps chugging along. I just wish it was much faster.
