The ps4 has similar specs to a normal gaming PC. So I was wondering is it possible to wipe the ps4 drive and put windows or Ubuntu on it? And than shove the Ubuntu/Windows drive back inside.

The XB1/PS4 boot from firmware so you would need to replace the firmware by a PC-style BIOS before you would be able to boot from DVD/USB to install an OS. This is assuming the custom APUs have all the miscellaneous bits and pieces at standard PC-style locations compatible with standard OS builds. If not, you will need custom boot-image builds.

The XB1/PS4 firmware does not give a damn about what is on the HDD because their "OS" is stored in the BIOS, hence the need to overwrite the stock firmware with a PC-style BIOS if you want a remote chance in heck to ever boot anything else.

Moral of the story: you're not running Windows on a PS4 anytime soon.
