WD 3TB HDD SATA Drive stopped working

I Have 2 Western Digital 3TB HDD's and When I go to plug them in to my Thermaltake blacx duet
it causes the lights to blink very dim when powered on (NOTE: Only one drive is seated at a time) The problem seems like its a short, but I personally have no idea on how to fix that on the drive. Anybody have any insight for me?

  1. Check the following components (or similar):

    http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/bigcircuitboard_diodes.jpg

    See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

If the TVS diodes are shorted, then the PSU, or the wiring, is at fault. A shorted diode can simply be removed, by you must not overvolt the drive again, as you will have removed its overvoltage protection.

Can I just replace the diode if its shorted?

Yes, replacing the diode would be better than just removing it. My FAQ tells you what to do.
