So I'm thinking about dual-booting my Windows 8.1 with Mac OS X, mainly because I want to use Mac since I'm an Apple guy and such. But I have a few questions before I even attempt it.

Lets say I dual-boot with the same hard drive with my Windows 8.1, but in a different partition and such. And maybe I'll just get a new hard drive altogether for the Mac OS. What I'm wondering is, am I able to use the same media and such that is on my Windows? What I mean, is I have a complete separate hard drive for all my Videos, music, and the such (and some on my OS hard drive as well). When I'm in Mac OS X, and using it, am I able to access that media at all? Or when it comes to these kind of things, it's best to have it on (like copy it and such) a separate Hard Drive just for Mac OS X? Am I able to do that? Or does the media in order for it to be read need to be in a different partition (same one, whatever it is, that the Mac OS X has)?

I have about 2TBs worth of media on the other Drive, so that's why I ask.

Give it to me straight, is it best to even considering having two OS's on the same hard drive? Or should a separate hard drive have the OS on it?

Thanks!

Macs can read (and write) to NTFS (windows) formatted drives with the help of a little utility, so yea, no problem playing your media on your hackintosh. Just buy a cheap SSD to install OSX to, IMO, to keep things simple and separate. You can use your BIOS boot menu to select which drive to boot from.

Yeah, I'll more than likely get an SSD to do it.

However, I'm having an issue. As of right now, I have no Mac OS X. And from that I have seen a TON of videos on Youtube that involve dual booting and the like, and downloading/buying the files needed - on the videos - they're all doing it in Mac OS X, and well, I can't access the Mac store to download/buy the files (obviously) because I'm in Windows. And all the stuff I find that is on PC, is a virtual-boot, which is on PC, which I do not want to do.

So, what can I do here? Where can I download the Mac OS X from, so I can have a dual boot of Windows 8.1 and Mac OS X (Mavericks, I guess)?

Thanks!

Hmm, I see. Well, what about doing the virtual Mac OS X on PC, to get the Mac Mavericks files, to practically do all of what the videos on Youtube do. Am, I able to do that? Or, would I really need to find someone with a Mac OS in order to do this dual boot?

All I did was link to lifehacker which is a reputable site and the instructions there are the standard for building an honest Hackintosh, the only thing you do with the Mac is format the USB stick, there is no copying of the OS involved, so if you regard building a Hackintosh as piracy then you are correct, if you misunderstood that I was suggesting you copy the OS then you simply misunderstood the instructions. In this method you still need to buy the OS!

Ah ha. I think you need a Mac to do this in any semblance of legality. But here are detailed instructions if you can borrow somebodies Mac for a few minutes. http://lifehacker.com/the-always-up-to-date-guide-to-bu...

You are advocating software piracy (borrowing sombodies Mac to download Mavericks). I don't believe this site should condone such suggestions.

Please read my response, you misunderstood, there is no copying of Mavericks involved AT ALL, the purpose of borrowing the Mac is to simply format and prepare the USB stick with a copy of the OS YOU MUST PURCHASE from Apple. This is STANDARD for building any Hackintosh.

Buy a copy and you use with a hackintosh. End of story.
