Quick Ram Question...

Ok so i have a dell dimension 4700, and i just found out that two of the ram slots are broken. The mobo has 4 slots, and it supports a maximum of 4gb ram. If i were to get two 2gb sticks would they work? Or does it need to be 4 1gb sticks?
