So I just bought http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3KFJt6

Spent like 5 hours building it and got to the bios screen. It said my ram was at 1333 but it's 1600...that's not the problem tho...

Bios said it couldnt read my ssd/hdd, I realized I forgot to plug them into the power supply. Powered down everything and plugged them in.

Turned it on and what happens? Smoke came pouring out of my hard drive. Idk what the hell happened, but I'm pretty sure it's dead (smells like burnt plastic) but my ssd seems fine.

I want to try and get everything running with just the ssd but I'm afraid to touch anything.

Is my psu at fault? Will probably rma soon

Only way to find out is to try it. Take the hdd out and see if you can complete the build without it.

Tried it with just the ssd and everything seems fine guess it was just a bad hdd. But why is my 1600 ram at 1333mhz?

RAM defaults to the MB defaults so you will have to set it up in BIOS to get the advertised speed. Enabling XMP Profile1 usually does the trick for your memory & speed. Probably should have set up the BIOS just before loading windows. Make sure that you are in AHCI mode for your SSD. If not there is a way to change that without having BSODs. Set optimized defaults then set the memory and whatever else needs to be set.
