This just started happening to me today and I have spent the last six hours trying to figure out what is going on....
Specs
OS: Windows 7
MB: Gigabyte ga-z87x-ud4h
CPU: Intel I7-4770k
RAM: 16 gig (8 + 8)
Video Card: Nvidia GTX 760 (latest drivers)
PSU: Corsair TSW750 V2 750 W
Case: Rosewill Blackhawk-ultra
Symptoms
My computer will randomly power down. Sometimes it will boot back up, sometimes it will fail to start windows. This reliably happens during gaming (DCS: World) and has happened several times during my attempts to diagnose. CPU temps during gaming (these are right before the crash) are 67, 64, 63, 56 (cores 0-3 respectively). GPU temp was 81 C...
All of these temperatures were taken using HWMontior.
Notes and thoughts
My immediate thought was overheating so I downloaded prime95 to test. While running that, my CPU temp gets up to 96-100 C. I would definitely say that is too hot so I will be ordering a new heat sink regardless. That being said, those temperatures do not reliably produce a crash (only once out of the many times I tried. Since I can only reliably induce a crash while playing DCS:world (and the temperatures aren't getting that hot while playing), I want to lean towards a PSU problem....
Next I thought it was a PSU issue. I don't trust the voltage levels from HWMonitor so I checked the BIOS and they appear to be in spec.
Computer is less than a year old so there is not much dust in the case.
I have checked the mounting of the heatsink to the CPU. Appears solid.
Airflow shouldn't be a problem. I have a HUGE case and eight fans...
I am at a complete loss. I am not too much of a hardware guy so any help solving this would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there are any additional diagnostic tests I can run or info I can provide.
