My PC Build is as below
i7-4770
Asus H87 Pro
Sapphire Dual X R9 270
2 WD Blue HDD
1 SSD
Corsair CX 750 PSU
Dell 22 inch Display

The Sapphire box says a recommended 600W PSU, i got the 750W for possible future enhancements.

What should the recommended UPS wattage be for this build ??
How do i know if the system is running on max power ?
If i got a 750W PSU, does it mean that it will always consume that much power ?

Edit : I just need enough backup time to be able to shutdown the system on a power outage.

More about : wattage ups 750w psu

This build roughly be pulling around 380-390W. You really don't need 600 or 750W. You are much better with 520W PSU.

Get Seasonic from Flipkart

Well, i already got the Corsair CX 750W PSU.
My question now is, what UPS would i require to be able to safely shut down my system in power outage. Will the 750 mean that it will always pull 750 W out of the UPS ?
We have frequent power outage in the area, between my last message and this 1, i already had 2 power outages.

Sorry, my bad. UPS with respect to PSU is determined by the power factor of the PSU. I'll provide the required info soon. Same problem of power outage here.

The PSU rating is the max it can provide. What it actually draws is dependent on the hardware and what its doing.

What is your use case? unless in a game/demanding program you will not draw full load. Probably 350-400W then. much much less when on the desktop or say typing a report. Even less at idle. Plus once you lose power you will immediately start reducing your load.

The next question is how long do you need to be able to safely shut down? Will you always be home when it happens? Many UPS can automatically put your computer into hybernation. A state that requires no power but should not lose any work. If you are present you have time to react. if not it will do it for you. Can work well if you forget to save a word doc but less so for a game or complicated program.

15 minutes @ 500W should be plenty if all you want to do is save things and shutdown while you are present and more than enough to let it hybernate if its at idle. a Typical consumer use case. HOWEVER if you do intensive work. Scientific programs or video editing. Where you need to get to a particular point or you may let run for hours unattended you will want something MUCH larger.

Ok. This PSU has power factor of 0.99. Still just to be sure I've used PF of 0.90. Though industry standard is 0.6 to 0.7 but your load is not really that much. You would need UPS with 865-870W. This includes your monitor as well.

I'm sorry but for this build, CX 750W is way overkill.

Use Case :
Mostly Photo Editing using Photoshop + Gaming

Safe Shutdown :
I'll always be around my PC when its in use. So, 2-5 mins.

As Easy lover said, 750 was an overkill for my build. Most of the online rating calculators recommended a minimum 600, however, i wanted to play safe, since i was sourcing my parts from another city. I didn't mind getting a little more power than ending up with less.

So, do you recommend that a 500W UPS should be good enough for my requirement ? The APC ones suggested are eating into my budget a lot. (my budget is for half of that price i.e. around 5000 Rupees)

this UPS will work fine for you is for up to 865 watts , this will cover you if you upgrade later and for your monitor plugged in also

I was looking at that for that last 4 hours, but its kinda double my budget. So i was looking for something that will run just enough within budget.

I really think you will be battling to find one for half that price for your needs especially if as you say
you will be adding more for future enhancements
