Hi All,
I would like to have my Teen boys building a PC and was wondering whether I could have your advices and comments particularly in regards of compatibility issues?

Also I would appreciate a suggestion of a good and silent case that could hold all this parts and keep them cool, as well as me...

Any suggestion of an optical disk or other interesting parts would be appreciated.

The config so far is as follow:
Processor: i7 4770k
Mother Board: ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA LGA 1150
GPU: Sapphire R9 290X TRI-X OC 4GB GDDR5
RAM: 16GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-14900 1866MHz Sniper
Disk SSD: Crucial M550 512GB 2.5inch SATAIII SSD
Disk HDD: Seagate 2TB Barracuda Internal Hard Drive
Cooler/Fan: Corsair CW-9060014-WW Hydro Series H110 280mm
PSU: Corsair RM 850W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply
OS: Win 8.1 (with a Linux partition)
Monitor: BenQ XL2720Z 27-inch LED Gaming Monitor (1000:1, 300 cd/m2, 1920 x 1080, 1 ms
Keyboard Sumvision Indigo LED USB Multimedia Keyboard
Mouse Jazooli USB Wired Optical Game Gaming Mouse PC 6 Buttons

This looks like a rough £2000 configuration but I would like one able to keep up the pace with... Games of course... and other tech advance.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Will they be over clocking?
Which country do you live in?
Will you be doing any video editing or intensive picture editing?
Any particular reason for 16GB of RAM?

It's an expensive budget for kids. I would've gone for an i5 4690k and ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 especially for kids. And only 8GB ram too. Surely they'll only want to go gaming (while pretending to do schoolwork)? And I'd just put a coolermaster hyper 212 evo cpu cooler on it too. And just a 24in monitor eg ASUS VE248H

Stuff from Novatech?

This information I stated above would be handy to know but as a general build you can do basically anything with that is what I would come up with. That is a beautiful machine that will run a lot of games. I dont think the 16GB is necassary but I do suppose you could get it if you really need it. I left room in the budget for that. If you want you could get the GTX 780 Ti which is even MORE performance. I don't suggest this as NVIDIA always rolls out with newer and better cards. So put the money you saved from not getting the Ti version into a new card in the future. Good luck!

Thanks all,
I will be also working on a separate partition and will need a lot of memory (I'm a data scientist...yeahhh). Maybe 8GB could be enough though.

For sure, the kids will overclock it (probably the main thing they will do to see how far they can go to burn the PC. Even the cat is scare of them...). I'll make regular backups though.

No video editing.

By the way I live in London and would not mind paying someone to overlook on the kids building it since I need it relatively urgently...

I am happy to take the GTX 780 Ti. Could MasterDell confirm it is better than the Sapphire R9 290x? it has been recommanded to me as the best (Sapphire R9) for now and coming upgrades, although I by far would prefer the quietness of the GTX 780 Ti (according to some reviews)
Thanks, thanks, thanks...

PS: You're all doing a great job, because in fact I am trying to get my kids out of playing all day and night long. Hoping overclocking will spark their interest elsewhere!!!!!

If someone in London can try to spark their interest in Game building for a few bucks that would be even better...

God Damm I would burn all these games, And now I'm buying the most expensive gaming box!!! What a world...

Ahh, also is the I7 4790k better than I7 4770k?

MasterDell configuration looks pretty nice. Will this be able to keep up with the coming technologies: Games, software...?

Thansk,thanks, thanks...

Haha indeed it is..

Here is a list where you can see the overall benchmarks for High-End GPUs.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

The 780 Ti is an amazing card there are no questions. If you feel 8GB isn't enough I strongly suggest you invest in 16GB.

MasterDell, I think you're right. The GTX 780 Ti is a bit expensive. I think I will stick to the GTX 780 as you advised and wait for a new model when the kids will destroy this one...

Can you confirm the i7 4970k is better than the i7 4770k.

Otherwise, your suggestion is really great. For evolutionary and heating perspective I would like to keep the Corsair CW H110. I will soon post my final configuration which is updated anyway on: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/ezcocos/saved/xCc48d

Could you help with a case with window (this is cool) that could contain both the GTX 780 and the H110? I am a bit picky, but I would like exhaust air on the top (I think necessary) and if possible on the side and bottom. I saw the Xigmatek Talon which is great because you can even open the top in heavy charge, but I am afraid it will not fit the GTX 780 and the H110.

I am also looking for a good Wireless adapter. Any suggestion welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

16GB all they way. If you stick with 8, the first thing added to it I'm sure will be more RAM :p

Hi! To me it sounds like the phantom 410 would be perfect for the build. It can fit a 240mm rad at the top of the case, it has side mounting fans and it looks just sick. I personally have one my self and I love it. Also, you can remove the extra bays in the middle to fit a gpu the length of the case which is basically every video card made. Yes the 4790k is better than the 4770k. The 4790k also is brand new and just came out. For the wireless adapter I wouldn't really bother with one. Do you have any specific need for one?
-Thanks

I have suddenly a fear. I bought 2*8GB Ram and I saw it is 1866MHz.

I noticed the I7 4790k specs stipulate 1600MHz. Will my 1866MHz will work?

Many thanks in advance. This is very stressing...

Sorry I haven't replied fast. I've been working.. Anyways!! I do believe the RAM will work. I'm almost positive. Double check on the CPU forum in toms hardware to make sure. Ask the guys they will answer very fast.
