I currently have a EVGA GTX 770 2GB and I'm currently running dual monitors at 1920x1080p on both with no problems that I can see.

I was wondering if it's possible to run 3 monitors at 1920x1080 on a GTX 770 2GB while gaming on 1 and general use on the other 2. (I won't be using surround gaming at all)

Even if it's possible, would you advise me to upgrade to the GTX 770 4GB version or maybe even get a 780 3GB instead?

I have an i7 4770k CPU btw.

Solution
If you ever use surround and game on all three monitors:
Will it run - yes.
Will it run WELL - Probably not.
2GB isn't really enough for triple-monitor gaming. It is recommended to have at least 3GB, and to play without changing any settings, you'll need 6GB.
You will have to probably play everything on medium, but you will still be able to play (I THINK).
If you have enough money, before you get a third monitor, upgrade the GPU to one with 4GB. I will help you choose one if you want.

But seeing as you're only gaming on one:
The performance will not at all be affected. The game will be playable at the same settings on 1 monitor, and you will be able to do whatever you want on the other monitors at the same time. As Unksol said, the...

Hope I helped. :D

Solution
not to nit pick at Mr sach but you answered it ALL wrong.

He SPECIFICALLY asked if adding a third monitor while only gaming on ONE will effect performance. It WILL NOT. You answered about gaming on three monitors which he does NOT want to do.

Teckiies unless you are doing heavy gpgpu work while gaming you are fine. sitting at the desktop in 2D does not tax the gpu

Sorry I didn't read the question properly... Editing the last post now... Thanks for telling me though :D

Also agree with sach's revised analysis above. yes you say only one but if I had three monitors I would at least try it out here and there. memory will be an issue. so will quality level.

BUT you may find the greater field of vision. at a reduced quality. might be useful. as long as you have 3 monitors you might want to experiment
