Howdy all,

This is actually a spin-off of my other thread where I wanted to upgrade my AMD CPU to a better AMD CPU : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2171589/buy-am...

However, now I feel like transitioning over to intel and also upgrading my graphics card.

Here is my current build:

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache Hard Drive
8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory
AMD HD 7870 Ghz 2048MB GDDR5 Graphics Card
BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black
OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4130 Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail
Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
EVGA 600W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply (100-B1-0600-KR)

I want to upgrade my CPU, motherboard and GPU.

In my previous thread someone pointed out to me that overclocking may not be worth it as I need to pay the premium price for a good Motherboard. However I am in some ways inclined to disagree. I have a budget of £475.

Here are my proposed upgrades:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£155.99 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£103.43 @ Dabs)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Dual-X Video Card (£220.54 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £479.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

And by the way for the graphics card I am intending to buy it on ebay as I have seen they tend to be much cheaper (around £150 -£200) and relatively new. So my total cost would be around £420.

I also already have a good Coller mast cpu cooler.heatsink.

Will my current PSU support these upgrades? Do you suggest any other R9 280x cards?

And any advice/suggestions?

Thanks

koushick

I would spend the additional 12 GBP to get the 4690K for better OC capability:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£181.97 @ Dabs)
