I had no clue what RAID 0 was and I didn't ask. After one of the drives failed, I now hate RAID.

Someone wants to buy it from me and I don't want them to have to deal with RAID 0 either. I want to know what's needed to do this

I took both of my drives out so do I need to buy 2 more or just 1 Since it won't be RAID?
Windows 7?
Will RAID automatically be gone with new hard drives or do I have to configure it to remove it?

Step by step on what's needed and how to do this is appreciated. Thank you

Hi

If only one disk failed the other one can be re used
Without further details I can only guess that the raid was on the motherboard and configured by the raid bios
It would have to be turned off so normal sata will operate
most recent motherboards & bios will default to sata ahci mode
older ones will default to ATA compatibility mode (usefull for XP)

If you then boot from windows 7 DVD you can start the re installing of windows
Either on old but good disk or new disk

Diagnostic software will confirm no hardware faults
Either hard disk manufactures web site or on Hirens cd image which has most of the disk manufacturers diagnostic programs
( now mainly WD or Seagate ,( Fujitsu, Toshiba , Samsung ) )

I have to guess due to lack of info
Pro Windows versions can do software raid, special raid controller cards may be involved

Raid 0 is slightly faster than single drives but as you have found out if one disk fails all data disappears

Raid 1 is also called disk mirror so if one of 2 drives fails system should continue to operate without data loss

Raid 5 uses 3 or more disk drives and one disk failure can be tolerated without data loss
