Hi,
I currently have a PC running Windows 8.1 Pro and I would like to dual boot Mac OS X.

My current PC specs are:
Intel i5 4670k
Asus Maximus VII Gene
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB
Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD
Corsair H100i
Corsair RM650.

The SSD is my boot drive and I also have a spare SSD which I am not using at the moment (Samsung 840 EVO 250GB) and I was hoping to put Mavericks on this SSD.

Will it be possible with the current build I am using? I am also in the process of purchasing a GPU, preferably a Nvidia however AMD cards are really pushing the best bang for buck at the moment.

I don't own a mac but I have a mate who has one and am I right in assuming I can use his Mac to get the necessary software.

Guys I am a total noob to hackintosh/Mac's so please bare with me. Thanks

More about : installing mavericks ssd hackintosh

Not legally, which makes your question borderline acceptable on these forums.

I'm going to watch this discussion closely. Hackintosh discussions are fine only as long as the OS is legally obtained (read, purchased from Apple, not obtained from one's 'mate' or other sources). As soon as the discussion moves to one of the illicit versions I will delete the thread.

the only way it would be legal for you to get macOS off of your mate would be if he had purchased a "family pack" which is good for up to 5 pcs and had a spare slot.

if he has a mac and it came with macOS (or he purchased 1 license only) then it would not be legal to get the software from him.

to get help on this forum with hackintoshes you need to legally obtain macOS. once you have a legal copy then its perfectly fine to discuss.

see post below.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "family pack" for Mavericks. Why would it be necessary? If you own a Mac you're entitled to a free copy of Mavericks; if you don't own a Mac then you aren't.

The only way that you can argue that it is legal to run Mavericks on a Hackintosh is if you already own a Mac. This is different from previous versions of the OS, which could be bought by anyone.

thank you for the clarification ijack. as i'm not a mac user i'm a bit out of the loop.

i think that makes the answer about using mavericks a big resounding "no".

Apologies, I had no idea. It's just you see YouTube videos of guys pulling Mac software from macbooks and they don't seem to tell you that using it from another device isn't entirely legal.

I'm hoping to purchase a Mac within the next week or two so I guess I can have a little more patience and use the software that comes with my Mac?

Would that be fine?

well as far as legality is concerned... its in a huge "grey zone".

good read: http://www.lockergnome.com/osx/2012/02/24/are-hackintos...

if you own multiple macos licenses its technically not software piracy however it does breach their EULA.

according to this http://www.us-cert.gov/sites/default/files/publications... , eulas are legally binding.. although this is also a hotly debated topic where some eulas were found to not be valid.

i do believe this is our personal stance on the matter:

Quote:
If I recall correctly, discussion about Hackintoshes is fine in the same way that discussion about copyright infringement is fine, just not discussion about how to go about it.

---

i take that to mean that we cannot tell you if its legal or not or if you should do it... however we are able to tell you if the hardware is compatible and if it would actually work.

Haha, so would you happen to know if my hardware is compatible? :)
