Hi guys, hope you can help me here.
I just bought an Asus R9 280X DirectCU II TOP to replace my ageing GTX 460. With it I also decided to install an SSD, a Corsair H80i to cool the i5 2500K overclocked at 4.2 and Mhz a new PSU (an Antec HCG-620) because the old new didn't have an 8-pin pci-e molex to power my new GPU.
Everything works...except for the GPU. There is no output, just a black screen. To exclude a PCI-e port problem I put back my old GTX460 and it works fine.
I immediately thought that it must be defective, but before sending it back, I though I could try it on my brother's system...aaaaaand it works.
So I decided to try my brother's graphics card on my PC (a Sapphire 7970 Dual-X, so pretty similar to my 280X) and it doesn't work either. So I guess the problem is my PSU not having enough juice for these more powerful GPUs, although I'm still not entirely sure since also my brother's system has a 620w PSU (a way older one, a CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX) but his system drains less power than mine as it is a bit more basic (no dedicated sound card, no SSD, simple CPU cooling fan).
The other specs of my system are:
P67A-GD65 mobo
8GB of Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3
a couple of sata 7200 rpm HDDs,
sata DVD player
a NZXT Internal USB Expansion
TP-LINK's N600 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
a case fan
What do you guys think? Should I replace the PSU for let's say a 750W one? Or could it be a motherboard related issue?
