Hey Guys,

It has been about two years since I have built a computer and need a lot of help. I know so much has changed since then and need some help putting a gaming/home computer together. I should not need a graphics card or a power supply. Build for my brother in law. He has a 1000w ps and a Nvidia gts 250 card. I know it is not the best but can this be salvaged to add more to the rest of the computer.

I will need everything else but the power supply and graphics card. Might be able to salvage the dvd drive but not much else...8yo system with some upgrades along the way...the once fast xp dinosaur has finally died. Have things like mouse, monitor, speakers, etc. Just need help with the tower and internals.

So Limit is max or under $550
Amd or intel...not brand specific.

Was thinking of windows 7 since he knows how to navigate it.
Please help with everything: mid size or full size case, ram, cpu, motherboard, cooling, etc, (optional SSD to run games and os)

Please include anything that I might have forgotten or you think he would need.
Remember the $550 is the max.
Will the gts 250 be enough or should I just build a complete system and not try to salvage? He wants to play the latest games available...doesn't have to be set to max but be able to play.

Thank you for the help guys!

Ok so I opened the thing up...I was speaking off memory. The Powersupply is a cheap 900w rocketfish with PCIe 24pin connection (4years old probably). Like I said if we need to scrap it all and start fresh we can.

Let me say too that I have build 2 computers. I am a complete novice at computer building but I managed to put a few together that work. That is why I am here. To seek the help from some real gurus that know the best for the money and how to really build a great machine. I have gotten help in the past here that was priceless.

I went the best stuff that could live with you for sometime and can play most games from High to Ultra maybe
Couldn't add a CPU cooler or an OS because of the budget
and the ASUS R9 270X is on a wonderful promotion so its price is just so good couldn't resist it
