System freezes after a few minutes of gaming

Hello everybody,

after 3 years of running flawlessly, today my PC started to freeze during heavier load, which means while playing World of Warcraft/Dota 2 and simultaneously opening a video on youtube or sometimes only just while playing the game.
Those freezes don't always force me to reboot, sometimes i can continue using my PC after waiting like 10-30 seconds, but I'm always disconnected from the server I'm playing on afterwards (like my whole system really froze, even the wireless connection). The freezes happen at "random" intervalls, but always while playing a game and most often after less than 10 minutes after I started playing.
Meanwhile i can run a benchmark with FurMark, open youtube and watch a video and defragment my HDD and nothing freezes at all (just tried FurMark to see if my GPU is the culprit).

My Specs:
MoBo: ASUS ROG Maximus IV Extreme Rev 3.0
CPU: i7-2600K @ 3.4 GHz
RAM: 2x 4GB G.Skill Sniper
GPU: 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 580
PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX1050 (1050W)
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT 240GB
OS: Windows 7

Yesterday I decided to install the new Nvidia 337.88 drivers for my GPU (and a BUNCH of Windows related stuff via the Windows Update program) which came bundled with GeForce Experience, which I have not been using until then.
First I tried to do a System Restore to the point before the updates, but to no avail. The problem persists. Afterwards I used the "Roll back Drivers" option in the device manager, but even then the problem was still there, it also did not remove GeForce Experience. I also tried uninstalling GeForce Experience, but was unable to since when trying to uninstall it in Windows' "Programs and Features" list nothing happens.
Additionally I also tested my RAM with memtest86+ (tried 1 hour, no problems there), checked for spyware with several programs like MBAM (I never had malware/virus problems, but just wanted to be sure) and monitored my system temperatures (seems good to me, cpu at like 60°C while playing, GPUs at ~50°C at the moment of a freeze).
A bunch of googling gave me the impression, that my problem may either be heat related (kinda ruled that out by closely monitoring the temperatures during gaming, the freezes just occur even when the GPU/CPU temps don't change much at all) or my PSU (which is more than enough for my system with 1050W).

So asking here is kind of like my last resort and I really hope I can avoid a fresh Win7 install.
I will appreciate any kind of help!
