Can 240mm fan be installed in 120mm case?

It feels like a stupid question, I know, but I have honestly no idea.

Let's say the Corsair H105, a double cooler with dual 120mm fan.

Can I installed one fan on top, one on the back? Or do they have to be together?

Thank you.

The fans by themselves could be installed separately, but the radiator is all one piece, and even if you try to only mount one of the fans through it, there's a very high probability of other pieces being in the way of the radiator if the case lacks a dual 120mm mount.

Hi Thefirehairman

I have to say your question isn't entirely clear to me but if what you are asking is whether one fan can be mounted on one side of the radiator and the second fan on the other side, as regards cooling I suppose yes it could, but again I'm not clear on the question :)

Sorry I'm french so my english may not be perfect. My question is, can I put one the left, and the other on top? (the fans that comes with the H105)

Pas de problème. Indeed as a 120mm is a 120mm fan if the slots are for 120mm yes. However the radiator performance may well be compromised from what it was designed to accomplish if only one fan is mounted to it.

Ok, I'm saying fans since the beginning, but I guess I wanna say radiator.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8898133&CatId=499 - This cannot be installed in my current case, right?

My situation is that I have the AMD FX9590, a very hungry cpu, so I'll need the cooler to be working at his best.

So do I need a new case for the H105, and if yes, which one do you recommend.

Thanks a lot already, I appreciate it.

It looks that way I tried to get good pictures of the case to see if the 240mmm radiator could be mounted but as best I can tell it's a no. A couple of alternatives are; a) mounting the radiator outside the case, however I dont know how easily that can be accomplished with a cooler like the Cosair or any similar product that comes all assembled, b) moding the case, there again I can't tell from what I've seen in pictures for your case.

Finally if I where to consider a new case with max airflow I'd make it simple and go for the Corsair Carbide Series Air 540, as airflow is what it was designed for.
