RAM is dual channel, but appearing is single channel.

So today, i build my first gaming PC (With help obv :P) And the RAM, what is advertised as dual channel, is being shown that this is single channel, did we do something wrong when installing it? Or is this just a computer glitch?

  1. For dual channel mode , that have to be in the right slots.

Have you put the RAM sticks in the corrects slots in your motherboard? If you have 4 RAM slots on your motherboard there usually has to be a slot spacing between them.

So say the "I" is a stick and the "O" is a slot it should look like this:

    IOIO

    Hope this helps.
  3. Well, i watched him do it, and i remember he put them together. So...I guess i could just take the ram out and put it in the correct slots. Thanks!

Edit: Is it worth me unscrewing the case and everything, will i see a significant performance increase? Or shall i leave it until he can sort it for me, i really dont want to break anything, and im only playing BF3 and LoL atm.
  4. From the manual

    Installation of Memory Modules (DIMM)
This motherboard provides four 240-pin DDR3 (Double Data Rate 3) DIMM slots,
and supports Dual Channel Memory Technology. For dual channel configuration,
    you always need to install
    identical
(the same brand, speed, size and chip-type)
DDR3 DIMM pair in the slots. In other words, you have to install
    identical
    DDR3
    DIMM pair in
    Dual Channel
    (DDR3_A1 and DDR3_B1; Black slots; see p.14 No.7)
    or
    identical
    DDR3 DIMM pair in
    Dual Channel
    (DDR3_A2 and DDR3_B2; Black
slots; see p.14 No.8), so that Dual Channel Memory Technology can be activated.
This motherboard also allows you to install four DDR3 DIMMs for dual channel
    configuration, and please install
    identical
DDR3 DIMMs in all four slots. You may
refer to the Dual Channel Memory Configuration Table below

No problem, let us know if it works for you!

Edit: It shouldn't be too much of a problem but you should definitely correct them at some point. Dual channel works better than single channel.
  6. If you have four slots for Ram, you would want to leave space in between to have dual-channels.

    For example:

Stick - Empty Slot - Stick- Empty Slot
  7. Hi, i know i picked solved but i asked my freind and he said he purposely put it in that way because i would have no benefit of having it dual channel because i would need 4 sticks of RAM to actually see a difference, and i would have no benefit in having it dual channel at all. Is he right with this?
  8. Not true 2x4 is dual channel also , that's why they are sold in pairs.
  9. It doesn't matter if the benefit is negligible, it is still better to be in dual channel.
