I am using a Logitech USB headset adapter, randomly the headsets microphone will begin to play through my headset. I can stop it for awhile through the windows sound options, but it will reassert itself randomly. The method I use to fix it for the short period is be just touching the headset microphone slider. my question is how do I make it a permanent fix? Logitech offers no drivers for this adapter as it is natively supported by windows.

Try clicking on "advanced". In that screen, at the bottom, uncheck both selections (Allow applications to take control and Give exclusive mode applications priority).
Just a shot, but it might work.
You might have to do that under the recording tab also.
If you unplug your headset and replug it, and Windows pops up a screen asking if you want to hear sounds through the microphone (it will probably say device) check mark NO; I don't think this pop up will appear but one never knows.

This does not seem to help, I continue to get the microphone playing through my headset. As added information it seems to be not so random, it happen even if I switch to the recording tab or load a voice com program. Seems to be attached to anytime the microphone feed is accessed it overrides the settings
