Monitors shut off when playing games, fan speed goes high, have to force restart

So I've had this computer for over 2 years and everything's ran fine until the other day, now every time I launch a game, both my monitors seem to turn off and the fan speed goes to max and I'm forced to restart. I can even still hear skype or a video I was watching when it shuts off, but the game itself seems to freeze and I can hear it stutter. I bought a new psu and it does the same thing with that one, I've cleaned my graphics card and the heat sink of dust, not sure what to do next. Any thoughts for this problem?

How is the rest of the airflow in your case, can you provide a picture or a detailed explanation? (case fan positions, etc) If it is the card, you should check out the warranty (some have a 3 year).

Also this could be an issue with the graphics card. Do you know anyone with a similar model that you could try out in you case to see if it is just the graphics card or if it is your system.

What kind of temperature readings are you getting? Sounds like your graphics cards are throttling due to too high load/heat issues. When you cleaned the graphics cards did you remove the heatsinks, if so did you reapply thermal paste? Give us all the info you've got.

It sits at 57~c when the computer is just on and when I checked earlier it got to about 80c when it shut off after launching a game. When I cleaned it I just used air to clean the dust out of the gpu/heat sink, didn't remove the heat sink or look at the thermal paste inside.

That is why the computer is crashing. Those temperatures are way off. What is the graphics card model and how is the airflow in your case?

Try downloading some software like MSI Afterburner to max the fans and/or monitor the fan speeds. Report back the information you gather :)

I've used MSI afterburner for awhile now, cranked up the fan speed to 100% and the GPU temp goes no lower than 55c although I feel feel a noticeable difference in air flow near the gpu itself.
