can I hook up my laptop to my pc to access the contents of the harddrive on my laptop?

I did something really stupid. I bought an external hard-drive to backup everything on my hard-drive of my laptop. Instead of copying and pasting, I cut and pasted and part way through the process I noticed my tv said "lost signal." (I had the laptop connected with HDMI to tv because back-light of laptop went out.)

I know that all the files weren't copied because they are not on the external hard-drive. Is there anyway to hook the laptop up to my pc or the hard-drive up to my pc to see what is still on the hard drive and copy it to my external hard-drive. I really want all of my pictures, videos, & music.

Thank you for any tips you can provide.

TVs connected to PCs usually say that when the power saving mode kicks in and turns off the screen when you haven't used the mouse or keyboard for a few minutes.

Is there anyway to hook the laptop up to my pc or the hard-drive up to my pc to see what is still on the hard drive and copy it to my external hard-drive. I really want all of my pictures, videos, & music.

I'm not entirely clear on what you're trying to say, but anyway you need a crossover LAN cable with RJ-45 connecters on both ends, to connect your two PCs, assuming that both your PC and laptop have a network...

I'm not entirely clear on what you're trying to say, but anyway you need a crossover LAN cable with RJ-45 connecters on both ends, to connect your two PCs, assuming that both your PC and laptop have a network adapter (most modern desktops and laptops come with those, just check for the RJ-45 ports at the back. It looks like a phone connecter, only a bit bigger).

Or an easier method would be, if your laptop has Wi-Fi and you have a Wi-Fi router, you can connect your PC to the router with a cable and connect your laptop wirelessly via Wi-Fi. Either way, with administrative rights, you can access any data from either pc by using the other one.
