So Im still rocking a sapphire 6870 1gb card. Since its still handling todays titles surprisingly well mostly due to the new consoles now being x86 , so with that In mind. I can run watch dogs on high settings at my tvs max resolution 1366x768 which is good enough for me. How long do you guys think I should keep this card for though before upgrading? it was released in October 2010 so its a bit of old card now but as I said its still holding up pretty strong even in the most demanding titles. E.g medium settings on crysis 3 etc. which again im happy with. Im thinking late this year early 2015 would be a good time to start looking at an upgrade. thoughts?

if you want to stick with AMD cards i would recommend you save for a r9 270x or r9 280x.

a 280x would give the best upgrade support for 1080p.

do not forget to check the recommended power supply wattage.

what is the rest of your build?

I have a 6670 and its worse than your GPU but just a bit newer. Honestly that GPU you have when it was made was made to be quite high end. I agree you probably dont need to upgrade at all until 2015(hell even 2016 if it can continue to play games at settings you are fine with). If you are able to run todays games at decent settings then there is nothing in your rig you need to upgrade. If I were you I would only consider upgrading when you start seeing games put too much stress on your hardware. If you cant handle a game at your desired resolution at lowest settings and the game has very low FPS than that generally means your GPU has far been surpassed.
