Found a folder which was in a BU of my laptop which I made 3 months ago, saved to an external HDD that somehow has 182GB of corrupted files. Original file on my laptop is not corrupted and was only 73MB. When I try to delete the folder I'm given a message that the file name is not valid or too long, and I should specify a different file name. Huh?? When I right click and select shred file (part of a program called Advanced System Care 7) and I select quick delete, I get a message "Deleted Successfully!" BUT at the same time widows flashes a message that the files are corrupted and unreadable - and the folder is still there on the drive, and so effectively - they can not be deleted? How do I delete these files (without formatting the HDD)?

Rename the files, and the folders they're in, to something shorter. You may need to go very short and do every level if it's a very nested structure.
