Audio Cutting Out Problem

Hi
Recently i have begun to notice that during gaming sessions i would get random lag spikes that would involve the audio skipping and the game freezing for roughly 1 second. Thinking it was the game i dealt with it for a while longer but it just ended up getting worse, i eventually resorted to updating the drivers for all of my components (Audio, Motherboard BIOS, Chipset Etc.) now the problem is worse in any and all applications and just in general the Audio will cut out for 1 - 3 seconds at a time and then reconfigure itself and begin working.
Now this is simply a last resort for me as Ive tried everything to get it fixed and working, from scouring the internet i have found that the issue lies within windows randomly detecting that the front panel headers on my PC are being plugged in and trying to change to them if i leave the setting in the realtek audio driver on, the Configuration box pops up every time that the Audio cuts out and for a split second you can see the front panel jacks on the diagram are lit up meaning they are plugged in. Now i have had to turn this setting off so that it doesn't interrupt me but its useless anyway because i know whats going on. I have opened up my PC to check that the header is connected to my motherboard properly and it all seems fine, and lastly even removing the realtek drivers and using the stock standard Microsoft ones present the exact same issue. I'm hoping that there is a Registry trick or some other utility to remove Auto Detection all together but i would really love to know why this just starting happening out of the blue.
PC Specs are as follows:
Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Gene
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
RAM: 16gb G.Skill Trident X
GPU: Asus 7870 Direct CUII
Thank you in advance to anyone who may have a clue as to what might be happening.

Well i think this is specifically an audio problem as i observe that it happens out of games as well. The game that i play is Counter Strike Global Offensive and its run by source engine which is buggy to say the least, so that's why i believe that the frame stuttering is coming from that especially when i manage to run the game at >200 fps. And to add to that other games i play only seem to have audio cut outs, but i wont rule out the GPU issue it is possible but i just don't know how.
The monitor i use is an LG IPS277 that's connected through a HDMI connection from the GPU

Yes that's the monitor
Game debate says should be fine to run all at max settings like I've got, but again i don't think this issue is game specific something else is causing these problems to occur.
As for DVI/VGA why on earth would i want to use that?

Well i don't have audio going to anywhere else and plus i only use headphones that are plugged into the rear ports on my motherboard, i understand what you mean though as HDMI has an audio signal as well but i would hardly see how that's configured in any way.
Oh and the chances of me replacing my motherboard are 0, so that's definitely out of the question.
I don't really have an adapter or D-Sub cable handy either so i can't really do any testing for that.
