About 4 weeks ago I built my first computer consisting of these specs.

I recently bought Battlefield 4 and the day I bought it I was playing for a good 4 hours on medium/high settings with no noticeable frame rate drops or lag issues. I come back the next day, jump on Battlefield and I'm at best getting 40 fps on the exact same settings, untouched from last session. Even on low settings I get the same fps and then the same fps on high/ultra (30-40 fps). But whenever I first hop into the game I get 80-100 fps but after 2 minutes it drops to 30-40 back again.

I have re-installed drivers (14.1,14.2,14.3,14.4 and 14.6 beta), I have re-seated the GPU like 3 times I just can't see anything wrong. My CPU cant be bottlenecking it as I have a i5 4570 which is past the requirements for the card. The PSU is also not the problem. I just don't know. Any extra information you need will be provided.

Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks.

Are you playing on the same map? Different maps may have different FPS or is someone destroying buildings in your server (levolution)? That may cause fps drops

I have tried different maps, server size and game modes all get the same result. I'm not sure that it's something game wise but thanks for your suggestion.

Maybe your hardware is not well cooled (it's hotting up).
Hot hardwares slows down to save themselves from overheating.
Try better cooler or try open your case and play the game with your case oppened see if the same thing happens

What should my fan speed be while gaming? Because on my AMD Catalyst manager it is at 50% should I bump that up when gaming? I'm new to all this.

I'm not sure about bf4 - i never played it
And i have no idea about how r9 270x temps - I don't use that card
But here's what i have
Playing BF3 on High at 720p using MSI r7-260x OC edition, the fan is running at 80% or sometimes 90% while destroying buildings.
But your card have better performance and should use lower fan speed or just set your fan speed at auto if you're not sure

Heat doesn't affect the performance so much. it only lowers the lifetime of components. If temp exceeds then bye bye for the component. FPS changes in every map. So don't be worry.

Thanks AK, But somehow it's still under performing as my card should be able to run smoothly on high/ultra settings.

Check your temps since modern hardware has throttle temperature to prevent it from burning up.

While on the subject, What do you guys use to check and log temps?
I'm using Msi afterburner but can anyone suggest anything better?

Your CPU seems to be running really hot there

Do you have any FPS limiter on?

Unkown thanks for replying! What is that and how can I access/view it?

in games, under most game options, you can limit FPS to limit hardware at a certain point, if you have a 60Hz monitor and limit FPS to 60FPS, it works out best for people.

So, I entered a command into my console to limit my fps to 61 fps as my monitor goes to 60hz. This didnt help my game run at higher fps, it was still at 30-40 fps.

alright, that clarifies the scenario quite a bit.

Do you have Vsync disabled, if you do enable it.

FPS has been common all over the forums, though mostly it does not stay at low FPS for long.

This file has also worked for some people;

CPU temp is way to high forcing thermal throttle according to your link!

Just scrolled down the link and saw that, your CPU is very very hot!

Your CPU is throttling.

But this is the main thing, I don't want to dull down the graphics because I know that my GPU can/is meant to perform very well on high/ultra settings. Even with this file I get only 40-50. I know my card can is well over capable to achieve higher fps.

your card won't get higher FPS if your CPU is throttling.

Your CPU is defiantly capable, but your cooler is doing a poor job, try re-applying thermal paste and if that doesn't work then get a new cpu cooler.

Why is it operating with such hot temperature, it's only new? And can i disable CPU throttling?

you can't disable it (it is not something that can be, it is a physical temperature reading), you need to re-apply thermal paste and/or get a new CPU cooler to stop this. Your stock cooler is not going a good job at all.

I don have an aftermarket cooler nor do I have the money to get one. Is there a alternative option? I just can't see how it's running with such a high temp when i'm running one game.

Probably a stupid question, can you apply thermal paste to a stock CPU cooler?

you can re-apply it to the CPU, yes.

If that doesn't help, nothing else will unless you get anew CPU cooler. You setup is being limited by the CPU throttling, that's why.

So, i just re-started my pc and just on the desktop, my CPU temps are 70+... how can this be?

Your stock intel cooler is not performing how it should, it needs to be replaced as soon as you can.

For temporary alternative, open your case. It will give better airflow and should help the poor fan. (assuming that your pc is under a desk with wide space and not in a closed space)

It can be that the cooler is simply not seated right! Check your pins and I am presuming that you are using the original paste and the plastic covering it was removed.

Also check your CPU cooler fan speed. If it is slow then increase it.

70°C temp on startup is way tooooo high even for stock cooler.
