Hi. What's the difference between these two cards:

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 Windforce 4GB

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 Windforce OC 4GB

(Should I get the OC version? Which one is better in terms of performance and less noise from the fans etc)

Thanks.

they are the same, just the "OC" version means it has a small overclock given, which the non-OC can be overclocked to same level. The cooler and chip are otherwise exactly the same.

Performance wise, the OC version performs better due to the overclock given as the factory setting, the non-OC can be overclocked to same level.

Fans on both cards are the same, but when you overclock the hotter the card gets, so the faster the fans will spin making more noise. So, the non-OC will be slightly quieter.

I heard these cards run hot while gaming maybe at 84c while using over 70% of fan speed? Is this true? Can you provide me with some details regarding this matter. Thanks.

my R9 290X runs at max of 75 degrees and it is overclocked even higher. I have the exact same cooler from Gigabyte as you, and the cooler does a great job for the price.

I can link up some temps if you wish.

That will be great if you could link me some of the temps and also, while your card if running at 75c, how much percentage of fan speed is your card using? Thanks.

I am using 60% Fans, manual setting. This is what my fan config is set to;

Short BF4 Gameplay temps, Load, but not huge;

Load - Will get that soon

Thanks for that. Amazing how you are getting such temp while OC.... I guess, I should use the manual fan speed settings as you did if I encounter any loud noise from the card.

I tend to game at 1295Mhz Core Clock, an amazing OC for the R9 290X.

I would use manual, the Auto for me does not give me good temps. The Manual speed setting for my card does get a little noisy at 65 degrees but it aint too bad for me.

That fan setting config is used for 1295Mhz core clock OC, 75% fan speed when above 50 degrees, so temps are always respectable. Being in mind 1295Mhz core clock compared to stock 1040Mhz is a huge increase, so temps will be much hotter.
