how can i tell if my motherboard supports a higher cpu?

I have a Satellite E55-A5114 windows 8.1 and I wanna upgrade pretty much everything I can but I'm not sure which parts to buy I currently have an Intel i5-4200u 1.6 up to 2.6 with turbo boost. I want to upgrade it with a better Processor for example I7-4700MQ 2.4 up to 3.4 with turbo boost.

When you google the cpu, you can get the socket info. It's soldered so you can't upgrade it. Either get a new laptop or you are stuck with what you have. Although even if they are the same socket, it doesn't mean it's compatible.

Normally Laptops and not that much Upgradeable. Yes you can add a SSD and more RAM. Home made desktops are the computers that most people upgrade. Having a Branded (Lenovo, HP or other) computer also means you have their Motherboard witch is not normally the best platform for changes.
