i am looking to upgrade my pc which i bought from pc world. it is a hp pavilion p6-2310ea with 8gb's of extra ram bringing the total ram up to 12gb's(i was new to computers and thought that having a ton of ram would make a world of difference).

i am almost certain that i want to get an asus geforce gt 640 or a asus geforce gtx 650 ti because i want to keep costs low. however if i get the latter option i will need to buy a new power-supply as it requires at least 400w.

i would also like to buy a new cpu, i have my eye on an intel i5-3570k but i would need a new motherboard as the cpu requires lga 1155, where as my current motherboard supports the a75 FCH chipset.

if someone could tell me the best option or a suitable alternative for a low-ish price, it would be much appreciated.

Sorry went for a bath... For casual games its excelent but if u want BF3 then u can play it on Mid settings..

it look like you have an amd fm2 rig.... so with the actual rig you have you can add an AMD Athlon II X4 760K Black Edition
or 750k one , that will increase a lot the cpu performance but not like a i5-3570k can do of course
and if your are not really a big gamer a gtx 760 or 750 ti will be suffisant or if you prefer the amd r9 series are cheaper and perform good too

ok that looks like it would do the job.

so if i pared the GTX 650ti with the AMD Athlon II X4 760K Black Edition, wht kind of performance would i get on casual games like minecraft and on intensive games like battlefield 3? (i see it used a lot to show the performance of machines)

if i was you i will try to sell your hp pc and simply build a new rig...because it will be hard to find a gpu will fit in your hp pc case i mean you will be limited on choice , you can have a new pc case for a very low price without problem
at the sametime you will have the opportunity to choose the best hardwares for you

i dont really want to buy a new rig as it is one lump of cash which i dont have right now, where as upgrading is domething i can do as the money comes in and still get results as i go down the line.

however, if you can find a pc that has some of the things that i wanted to get or better for around £500 then i would consider the option of a new rig.
