Hello!
I have been a windows 7 user for quite some time. I had a x32 OS and it worked wonderfully. A year ago I decided to install x64, but it randomly freezed regularly. This could happen after a minute or a few hours of work time. This pissed me off, so I installed x32 and it worked perfectly. I should note, that it turned out to be a pirated version of Windows (as I bought it used, got scammed). Recently, after a lot of games that can only run on x64 bit OS came out, I decided to give x64 a try. Bought an official copy, installed it. It worked wonders for over a month. And now, suddenly, the same thing started happening. I am writing this message praying that my PC won't freeze on me again. The freezes have nothing to do with the temperature, as my PC keeps itself cool all the time (around 50C).

The computer just freezes. My mouse and keyboard stops working, but the computer doesn't crash. I think I'll install x32 again, just for the sake of stability, but this situation is just pissing me off. If there's any way you could help me, that'd be great.

I have already checked my PC for viruses, malware, reinstalled it, cleaned my hard drives (as in freed up some space) and vacuumed the insides of my little dieing beast.

I had an idea, that such a predicament might have appeared, because I have a rather old system, like 5 years old with a few upgrades (one more 2 GB RAM stick + GeForce 550 Ti overclocked), but it confuses me, as It has been working WONDERFULLY for a month now with little to no trouble whatsoever.

Would like to help you with this. From what you told me about your problem. It may be the startup programs/services. My recommendation would be to disable them. To do so you:

Click start > type msconfig
Under general click Diagnostic startup.

This will only boot required programs/services.

I've done this myself and it has worked for me. I would disable everything and just start fresh with the programs/services that I chose to be enabled.

Hope this helps! :)

It's probably a drivers issue... it isn't a mistery that Windows may work with the installed drivers and may suddenly not. It's a fact that a working system does not remain the same as time passes, different changes including Windows Updates can have an effect. On each reboot the boot loader looks for drivers and drivers that worked one day may not the next...

What I'd suggest is you go to the Asus website and download all available motherboard drivers.... Just found out that there are no Windows 7 drivers for your Asus PK5 SE motherboard... Vista is the last supported OS, but some drivers for Vista work with Windows 7, try installing a few, Windows 7 should detect their compatibility and install them or not... if they install then problem solved, and if they don't install, try updating your drivers with a driver update program. I use SlimDrivers and can assure it doesn't contain spyware but it's a good idea to disable all it's automatic settings. Scan with it and use it to download and install all the driver updates it finds.
