Is a 7950 for $115 worth it?

I just made a great connection that could sell me some PC parts for cheap. please help. (I'm going to test the card, I'm not stupid.. lol) The card is used though. He claims it was just used for graphic design. Should I get that or just spend $25 more and get a 270/270x?

Just a point on cooling, the stock cooler (single fan at the end) is not good, noisy and hot running and the XFX DD cooler is decently cool, but loud under load (I changed mine for a Gelid Icy Vision because of the noise).
If a R9 270X is just $25 or so more I'd go for the new card, you'll get a longer warranty.

No the 7950 works just as well(almost equally) with the 270X. The 290X is just a newer version but in terms of real world performance it makes no difference at all whatsoever. Save the money for a better CPU or more RAM or something else. The GPU's are very close and thats because the 270X is just a rebranded remade version of the 7950.

The R9 270X is a rebadged 7870 GHz edition; The 7950 was rebadged as R9 280.
That aside, I think you should get the 7950, as long as you trust the seller.

You'd need to go up to the R9 280 to have the equivalent of the AMD 7950. All of them are good for 1080p gaming though.

R9 270 = AMD 7870
R9 270X = AMD 7870 overlcoked
R9 280 = AMD 7950
R9 280X = AMD 7970 gHZ
