Hu guys,
I have a custom-built computer I built myself. I haven an SSD. The computer takes 35-40 seconds to load up. I only have one item on startup (anti-virus) have no malware. Is this normal?
Thanks,
AKNerd

you have the OS on the SSD?
-that seems very slow for an SSD, mine (Samsung 120GB 840 EVO) in Win 7 takes less than 20 seconds
on the otherhand you don´t have the fastest CPU in the world it is bottlenecking your system

With no ssd, that is normal.
With a ssd, it does seem a bit long, but the cpu is weak so that might make a difference.

What I suggest is to avoid shutting down and use sleep to ram(S3) instead.
Disable hibernate.

When you sleep, only the ram stays powered on. When you wake, it is very quick.
With a good cpu and a ssd, it only takes 2-3 seconds to sleep or wake.

It does seem a bit long boot time, make sure there are no other stealth programs being loaded on startup. Press start and in search type msconfig then click in the programs window. Click the Startup tab and see what is being loaded in at boot. You should only have your Antivirus, the AMD stuff and a few Microsoft bits. un tick anything else you dont want and also look for any unrecognized programs.

he has an SSD it´s the CPU wich is too weak, and leaving your PC in sleep mode is not realy a good solution, it may be during the day when you come back to it at a later point though

It is not clear. " I haven an SSD"
Does he mean (I have an) or does it mean ( I haven't a)

When you shut down, there is nothing in ram when you boot up again.
If you use sleep to ram and there should be a power failure, you will lose the contents of ram... true.
But before a complete shut down you will close out any apps that need it. You do the same with sleep so nothing is lost.
One advantage of sleep is that if you have lots of ram, windows will keep it populated with your most used stuff making access to those apps much quicker.
I normally only boot when I get an update that requires it.

The SSD is running in AHCI Mode. I have 2 gigs of RAM, which is not the most. I have an MSI 760-GM FX23 AM3+ mobo.

The startup time varies. I just restarted it and it took 33 seconds excluding entering the password. It doesn't usually take 40 seconds. I'm not upgrading the CPU though as it is perfectly fine for what I do and is suprisingly fast; my PC is less than a year old so I'm not upgrading. RAM is quite expensive.
