Hi Guys,

Me and my buddies are making our youtube channel and my Laptop isn't exactly up to snuff for graphics hungry video capture. I have decided to embark on my first build and me and my buddies have a bet going that I cannot build a Bare Bones Computer that can be used for medium/high medium level gaming and video editing. If I can get the main things they are going to buy the OS and the Connections. Here's what I am planning

Mid ATX Tower w/ 550W Power Supply http://

BioStar AM3+ Motherboard http://

AMD Fx 6300 CPU

NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 Graphics Card http://

Crucial Ballstix 8gb Ram Stick

SeaGate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive

Asus DVD Burner

If I did my calculations correct, this is all a bit under $500. I already have an external sound card as well. As I said this is my first build and this is a system that I will be building upon while we go along. My questions mostly are: is this a good idea, how would the power supply be enough, is the Graphics Card enough for mid range gaming and video editing, and is that the DVD drive I would need to play games/download software.
Thank you in advance for your time

Any PSU that comes with your case is usually a piece of garbage. I highly reccomend to order your parts off pcpartpicker instead.

If you plan to overclock you could go with a build like this:

Thank you everyone for your input! I guess what I really need help with is the Video Card. What is the difference between all of them and is my build idea not very good?

You've got the right idea, but the GT 640 is a weak graphics card. For gaming the R9 270 is much more powerful card and I would highly recommend to get it instead. If the build I posted is out of your budget, then try to get the first build NBSN posted. Just know you won't be able to overclock with that build.

I don't really overclock so everything except the graphics card is good? What graphics card should I get instead? I'm trying to keep it under 500 if possible

If you don't overclock you can get a cheaper motherboard and remove the CPU cooler. Keep everything else.

If I don't overclock, which motherboard would you recommend? I want it to have a lot of USB ports and at least a max of 32 GB if I had to I'd do 16
