Connect two monitors to GPU and one to motherboard?

My GeForce GTX 560 video card has two DVI ports and I have two monitors hooked up there. I do not play games -- I only watch video and do normal web surfing. I want to hook up a third monitor to my computer that I will only use to watch movies and set up in another part of the room. I was considering buying a second video card to add another monitor, but I just noticed my Gigabyte z68xp-ud3p f5 motherboard has an HDMI port. Can I just hook the third monitor up that way if I get a monitor with an HDMI port?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Yes, you should be fine. I have used onboard and dedicated on my Z68 board without issues(it is an Asus Maximus IV Gene-z).

The Intel drivers will just need to be installed and the screen setup as extended in your windows display settings.

I did not say they needed virtu, but that all Virtu enabled desktop boards(With onboard video ports to support both imode and dmode. cleared up my K1114) support multi monitor :) in this way since it is a requirement.

Using 3 outputs on the card the other way was done within the Nvidia control panel so if you can only have 2 on at a time one would have to be switched off in software. It was like that on older cards some even only allow ONE screen at a time be it VGA, DVI or s-video.

The 560's seem...

Hello. I had the same problem some time ago (i see that we have similar systems, i have p8z68v-lx and gtx 570) Tried everything but i cant work the 3 monitors at the same time.

But you can hook up all monitors on the gtx 560 and simply use the windows display switch and change from the 2 monitors to the other monitor, so you can watch your movie.

How can a hook up a third monitor to the GTX 560 if it only has two DVI ports? I can use the Windows+P command for the display switch, but how do I get an external display? I don't understand.

you can use an adapter from hdmi to hdmi mini, and just leave the other 2 monitors as they are on the dvi ports.

then you can use whoever 2 monitors you choose together and when you change to projector display through windows display switch everything will be displayed at your 3rd monitor.

Ok, Your board supports Lucid Virtu and Virtu requires 2 video cards(dedicated and onboard) to be active together. To do its thing.

So your board does support it.

From your own manual under Advanced BIOS Features

Onboard VGA
Enables or disables the onboard graphics function.
Auto
Allows you to set up a dual-display configuration in Windows 7 operating system. (Default)
Enable If No Ext PEG
Activates the onboard graphics only when no PCI Express graphics card is installed.
Always Enable
Always activates the onboard graphics, whether or not a PCI Express graphics card is installed. If you wish to set up a dual-display configuration, set this item to Always Enable.

OK, thank you for the answers - then I should just be able to use the HDMI port, as long as I have enabled on-board video? If for whatever reason it doesn't work at the same time, I can maybe use the Windows display switcher?

The 560's seem to have a mini HDMI port so a mini to normal HDMI cable could be used if you had to do this.

He's been pming me. Enabling it and installing the intel drivers got it to work but aero is off for some reason. Edit: Oh that was nikalagio with the same issue.

All virtu enabled mobos don't support multi monitor. You will find z68 with no video outputs but they support virtu. It's just d mode only.
